What is Form IMM 5444E?
Form IMM 5444E is Canada's Application for a Permanent Resident Card. You file a Form IMM 5444E if you need to apply for a Canadian Permanent Resident Card for the first time, if you need to renew an expiring card, or if you need to replace a lost or damaged card. Both adults and children must have Permanent Resident Cards to be able to travel out of Canada and return for re-entry to the country.
Permanent Resident (PR) Card
Canada's Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issues PR Cards to individuals who have immigrated to Canada but are not actually Canadian citizens. To immigrate, most people apply through either
- family sponsorship or
- employment-based programs.
Once Canada grants permanent residence status, you are authorized to live and work in Canada as long as you maintain physical residence and obey Canada's laws.
